Harbor Sunrise in Reclaimed Window Frame

New and now available "Harbor Sunrise" in a reclaimed distressed window frame.

Image taken in Port Washington WI.  Asking $150. Measures 23 in tall X 28 in wide. Comes complete with hanging hardware. #yourhomeport #jamesmeyerphotography

The "frame" is actually and old window sash that I reclaimed and distressed.  I was able to get a few frames. They are all the same style, six light frames. After lightly sanding each, I distress each frame by hand and each finished "window sash frame" is slightly different.

The finished image in the frame measures 23 inches tall x 28 inches wide.  The image itself measures about 20 in x 24 in.

Coming Home

“Stow the gangplank,” she shouted, the rest of the crew in harmony as we loosened the ropes and waved farewell to the harbor. Everywhere, exited movement drew our eyes toward the sea ahead and the jumble of ropes above.

“Hoist the peak! Ready mainsail!” Hand-over-hand, we pulled in unison, feeling the worn ropes resist our force to anxiously tame the flapping canvas. A turn of the captain’s wheel filled it with a promising tail wind. Forward we sailed, in the tradition of our past, the journey’s irony lost on no one.

Huddled-together travelers chatted up tattooed, barefoot men as a four-legged mascot navigated between newly-minted sea legs, our collective calm rising with each lapping wave. The sails lifted the hull as it skated along the surface. From shore, we had admired the vast expanse of blue-green,but its majesty now seemed certain and everlasting.  A ship (they say) is a maiden, a lady, but the Denis Sullivan is an Irish rogue making himself a new name that twists history due North with the wishes of a thousand builders.

Lighthouse and St Marys

This is a fun shot I took in the Port Washington Marina on June 19, 2015. Both the lighthouse (pierlight) and St Mary's church are iconic images of Port Washington, WI so I thought it would be cool to include them both in a single image.  I positioned my vehicle facing Lake Michigan and the lighthouse and adjusted my mirror to get St Mary's positioned in it.  I took about a dozen photos some with my 18-55mm lens and some with my 55-200mm.

I had no plans on making this image available for sale as it really is more of a novelty image so I did some colorizing and single image processing in Lr and Ps to add more color. The sky was a gradient from sunset but still flat and just boring in general so I painted a few layers of color, mainly grey tones on top to enhance the focal composition and draw the eye to the center of the image better.

I could have better positioned my vehicle and mirror but I really didn't have a lot of time to spend getting the perfect angle, and again, I really had no plans on selling the image so it is fine the way it is.

Room With a View

Room With a View is a "framed" print taken from Coal Dock Park in Port Washington WI. The observation deck is right on Lake Michigan facing east and a great spot to catch a morning sunrise.

Strawberry Moon in Window

Strawberry Moon in Window is a "framed" print taken just outside the Port Washington WI Yacht club during the Strawberry Moon, June 2015. It is a 10 second exposure in which I lit the foreground with a flashlight to illuminate the rocks, adding dimension to the image.

The "frame" is actually and old window sash that I reclaimed and distressed.  I was able to get a few frames. They are all the same style, six light frames. After lightly sanding each, I distress each frame by hand and each finished "window sash frame" is slightly different.

Night and Day

The large, bright full moon illuminated the marina in Port Washington WI.  Moments earlier, this moon had a pinkish hue, and appeared as the "strawberry" moon.

June Full Moon

I got down later than I wanted to catch the "strawberry" moon. It was already high in the sky and not very "strawberry" when I set up.  My first shots were taken in the marina by the boat launch using my 55-200 zoom. From there, I moved over to Veterans Park, which is further from the lighthouse and switched to my 18-55 lens, setting up right outside the Port Washington Yacht Club.  This is a 15 second exposure. I lit the foreground with the flashlight app from my cell phone.

Sunset on the Interurban

The sun was dancing in and out of the clouds on a warm evening in Cedarburg WI. The Interurban Bridge is featured in this spectacular sunset.

Great Start

Great start to the day down I the Port Washington marina. The view was a great combination of sun and clouds. The air was a crisp 45 degrees but filled with the sounds of birds and lapping waves.

Conversations Begin

Conversations happen throughout the day.

Remembering a loved one. Looking forward to what will be. Take each moment, extracting the meaning, the joy, the significance. Those are the conversations that make our lives.
